It’s easy to use, it delivers outstanding efficiency, and your contacts are always just a few clicks away.

However, you might want to get something out of it once you start using FaceTime for more than just a short call to a friend. For instance, you’ll be shocked to find that there is no obvious screen sharing option when you plan a group meeting and need to share your screen on FaceTime with everyone.

Use the webcam to Share Your Screen on Facetime

You should set it up in front of your computer screen instead of your face if you’re using a physical webcam.

Use Messages to Share Your Screen

On FaceTime, you can share your screen via the Messages app, which is also pre-installed on Mac. There’s no need for something to download or build new accounts. Simply follow these steps:

  1. Sign in with your Apple ID Account, after opening the Messages app.
  2. Find a conversation with the person you want your screen to share with. Alternatively, begin a new conversation with them.
  3. Find the Details button in the upper right corner of the chat, and click on it.
  4. Just tap the double-screen button.
  5. You can choose Invite to Share My Screen and Ask to share screen.

The screen-sharing options can also be found right on top of the chat, too. Tap on the name of the recipient and choose to share the screen in the drop-down menu.

Another way is via the ribbon menu of the app to do it. Pick Buddies from the menu at the top of the page. You will find the same choices, invite to Share My Screen and Ask Share Screen, to choose from

  1. The other individual will get a request pop-up on their screen when you click on one of the options. You may choose to agree or refuse, so your video call can be continued.

Use Messages to Access Their Mac

Wait until someone’s FaceTime screen is shared with you to reach someone’s Mac, locate the mouse icon in the upper left corner of the screen, and click on it.

Share your computer with the user if anyone wants to view your Mac: find the double-screen icon in the menu and click on it.

Make sure it is someone you trust before you let someone access your machine. Note that your computer will be completely managed, able to go through your files, including your confidential personal data.

Click the double-screen icon again to revoke the control and disable that feature.

How to Share Your Screen Offline?

Even if there is no Internet connection, you can remotely connect to another Mac using the built-in Screen Sharing software.

Open the Spotlight search to launch Screen Sharing and type in Screen Sharing.

The app will ask you for a user’s hostname or Apple ID that you would like to connect to. You can directly connect to their device using their Apple ID. Simply type in your Apple ID and press Enter. For your Mac, leave the rest.

The only downside to this approach is that during the screen sharing session, there is no room for messaging or addressing the problems. You may, however, use Facetime or messages for that.
